Create. Relax. Enjoy.
CREATE. RELAX. ENJOY.
Refresh yourself to renew your stock of energy and joy!
Long on “must-do” obligations but often short of time, many of us have difficulty setting aside hours for activities defined as leisure.
What’s more, reading a novel, luxuriating in a hot bath, solving a jigsaw puzzle or pursuing some other satisfying activity or hobby may be looked on by your family or friends as selfish. More productive – and more mundane – pursuits are more likely to be met with accepting nods.
But don’t succumb to the status quo! Be sure to carve out some occasional “me” time. Here are a few tips:
- Get creative. Write a short story. Attempt a new recipe. Plant a garden. Take a field trip to a nearby but as-yet unvisited attraction. Go dancing! If you have a dream you’ve never explored, find a way to follow through.
- Sign up for something new. Enroll in a class or activity you think you might enjoy. Perhaps it’s a book club, photography course or exercise class. Maybe it’s a music lesson. Give yourself an opportunity to experience a variety of options.
- Take some time out. Stretch out on a park bench and enjoy the view. Go for a walk. Schedule a massage. Put on some favorite music. Carve out 20 or 30 minutes (or more!) from your daily schedule and devote it to something you find relaxing or invigorating.
“Refreshing yourself on a regular basis is important,” says Donna L. Henshue, RN, for Morningstar Senior Living’s Life Care Community, Moravian Hall Square in Nazareth, PA. “Playfulness invites joy back into your life!”
